While the Apple Watch Series 10 is a more advanced upgrade over its predecessor, it still doesn’t quite match the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Maybe that’s why we only get a new color option this year. When comparing the Apple Watch Ultra 2 to the Series 10, the Ultra 2’s edge is evident in a range of features that enhance performance and durability. Whether you’re interested in the improved design or longer battery life, the Ultra 2 offers a well-rounded experience that meets the needs of users looking for more from their smartwatch. Let’s take a look at the differences that make it the better choice. Check out why the Galaxy Watch Ultra is the best smartwatch from Samsung.
1. Better and more durable design
Sure, one of the best new features of the Apple Watch Series 10 is the slightly larger display and thinner body, but the Ultra 2 still has the edge in terms of design.
I’ve been using the Ultra since the original arrived in 2022, and I can’t get enough of the titanium case and flat, sapphire-covered display. My Ultra 2 looks as good as it did the first day I took it out of the box. I’ve worn the watch camping, vacationing, working in the yard, and pretty much anything else you can imagine, and it’s held up remarkably well. I can’t wait to see how the Ultra 2 looks in satin black in person, especially with the orange accents.
If you’re looking to buy the aluminum version of the Series 10, don’t expect it to stand the test of time. I’ve worn almost every Apple Watch model since the first one arrived in 2015, and the less expensive models have some major flaws. The Ion-X glass just doesn’t hold up. Every model I’ve ever worn seems to attract scratches, even if you’re careful. The aluminum case seems to scratch very easily.
While the Jet Black Series 10 looks stunning, I expect body scratches to be a bigger problem due to its brushed aluminum finish.
2. Longer battery life
Battery life is a big part of the Apple Watch. Despite the new design and more efficient processor, it still Apple The Series 10 is rated for up to 18 hours of battery life with normal use and up to 36 hours in low power mode.
But the Ultra 2 is still the undisputed king in the battery department. Apple says it can last up to 36 hours of use before needing to be charged, extending that to up to 72 hours with Low Power Mode.
In my use, these numbers are conservative, as I was able to last about four days without needing to recharge the Ultra 2 with normal use. So, if battery life is an important factor, the Ultra 2 should be your choice.
3. Action button
Another exclusive feature that helps make the Apple Watch Ultra 2 great is the Action Button. Just like the iPhone 15 Pro and later models, the Action Button on the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is easy to use and customize.
It’s one of my favorite features of the Ultra 2. I’ve used it for different actions, like starting a workout, turning on the watch’s flashlight, or even running a shortcut to turn on my car’s ambient lighting. Being able to do different tasks without having to fiddle with Siri or watchOS menus is a huge time saver. Check out the best shortcuts you can use with the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action Button.
4. Better water resistance
The Series 10 borrows some of its new features from the Ultra 2, including a water temperature sensor and access to the Depth app that can automatically launch when your Apple Watch is submerged.
But don’t expect the Series 10 to go as deep as the Ultra 2. The Series 10 is water resistant to 50 meters, while the Ultra 2 is twice that. The Series 10’s depth gauge is good for 6 meters, while the Ultra 2’s goes up to 40 meters. You can also use the Ultra 2 for recreational diving and other high-speed water sports.
It’s a great time to look for an Apple Watch. While the Apple Watch Series 10 offers some great features, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is still my top pick. Don’t forget that the Apple Watch Ultra is still the only model with both the Wayfinder and Modular Ultra watch faces. The new watch faces that Apple introduced alongside the Series 10 — Flux and Reflections — will be available on all Apple Watch models compatible with watchOS 11, up to the Ultra 2.
