When it comes to graphic design, Canva is one of the most popular and easy-to-use apps. With the rapid advancement of AI technologies, it has become an even more powerful and versatile option thanks to a range of smart tools that help make the design process easier and faster. Whether you are a beginner or a professional, these tools make the design experience more creative and effective.
The Magic Studio suite offers great ways to enhance your Canva designs with AI. While you can do almost anything with AI, these are my favorite AI tools in Canva and often my go-to options when designing. Check out Discover the best free features in Canva that I really love.
1. Resize & Magic Switch
When creating designs for multiple purposes, such as a variety of custom posts, posters, and digital ads on social media, resizing and reconfiguring designs for all the many formats can be quite a hassle.
Canva’s Resize & Magic Switch tools let you resize your designs to other size formats with the click of a button. Using artificial intelligence, this tool reconfigures your design in a way that works best for your newly chosen format — of course, you may still need to tweak the placement of elements to get it just right.
If you use Canva for more than just a small creative hobby, access to Resize & Magic Switch could be a great reason to upgrade from Canva’s free to paid subscription. While not specifically an AI tool, Canva’s Docs to Decks feature delivers a similar result when reformatting your design documents into presentation decks.
Once you're done with your design, simply select Resize & Magic Switch, check the boxes — or add a custom size — for the design sizes you need, and resize them. Open them after resizing to finish placing the elements before saving.
2. Magic Translate
Canva is introducing Magic Translate as part of its AI tool library in 2023. Using AI to translate designs can save you a lot of time and money when creating multilingual designs; however, you should always check the results with a native speaker to make sure the translation is sending the right message.
I love Magic Translate because it not only translates entire documents while maintaining your design style, but you can also choose the tone of voice to ensure your translation conveys the right message for your brand design.
While other tones may be correct in terms of the same translation, there are many languages that use more specific terms to change the meanings of entire phrases based on tone alone.
You can find the translation feature by selecting a text box, then selecting Change. Resize & Magic Switch -> Magic TranslateThere are over 130 languages to choose from, with Canva implementing more with each update.
While Magic Translate is a paid tool, Canva Free users can use it with one of the 50 free AI credits. These credits can be used on some of Canva’s AI tools, but not all. Check out my favorite Canva Pro features that make the subscription worth the cost.
3. Magic Write
Canva's Magic Write provides a full suite of tools to enhance or transform your writing. You can find these tools either by selecting the text box, then selecting Magic Write, or by selecting the quick actions button in the bottom corner, which uses the / As a keyboard shortcut.
Some of the features offered by Magic Write are:
- Change the tone of your writing.
- Shorten or summarize your writing.
- Rewrite your words.
- Automatically fix spelling errors.
One of the best ways to use Magic Write, if you are not a confident writer, is to use the option Custom Prompt. Which works similarly to AI generators like ChatGPT and you can use these useful chat prompts.
Whether you need help adding a little sparkle to your writing or you want help writing the entire text from scratch, Canva’s Magic Write tool offers a variety of ways you can enhance your Canva designs. I think this is a useful tool for a lot of people. Some parts of this tool are also included in Canva’s free plan.
4. Magic Morph
Canva’s Magic Morph tool works similarly to Adobe Firefly’s AI font generator. You can apply some of the same ideas as Firefly’s font generator to Canva’s Magic Morph tool and get some pretty amazing results. It can be found under Quick Actions (/) or in the expanded menu of Canva apps. You’ll need a paid subscription to use this tool.
To use it, select an element or text from your design and then open Magic Morph. You can also add an element from Magic Morph if you don’t already have one you want to use. Then type a prompt into the text box, such as “red foil balloon,” and select Magic Morph to generate it. You’ll receive four results, and you can choose the best one or even regenerate more.
I think using Magic Morph in Canva is a great way to add extra dimension to your Canva designs. I think it’s best used on text, which is often flat, but it can be used on other elements as well. Magic Morph makes designs look more detailed than what Canva offers with typical non-AI design tools.
Since Canva isn't an image manipulation app like Adobe Photoshop, Magic Morph provides a way to include image manipulation-style elements, and it only takes a few seconds to get great results.
5. Grab Text
Canva's Grab Text tool is one of my favorite Canva offerings. It's another Canva Pro feature, so you'll need a Canva Pro subscription or a free trial to use it, but I think it's worth the money.
My favorite use for Grab Text is after you create an AI image with text in it. Most AI image generators can’t generate readable text in English. Grab Text is the best AI text fixer I’ve found, but you can also use it for plain text in Canva projects or uploaded images. Select the image with text in it and choose تعديل الصورة -> Grab Text.
This Canva AI tool identifies any text in an image, regardless of language, including gibberish AI text that doesn’t exist in any human language at all, and turns it into an editable element. This means you can rewrite text in photos or remove text entirely.
Canva’s AI does a great job of identifying the font — or finding a similar font if you want to rewrite text. It also works really well at filling in space if you’d rather remove text entirely. This tool is a huge time saver, whereas using something like Adobe Photoshop would take minutes.
There are many ways you can use Canva's AI tools to enhance your images, although most of the tools are included in the Pro subscription, so you may save money over purchasing expensive subscriptions to Adobe or other apps.
This is not an exhaustive list of AI tools in Canva. Many of the other AI tools found within Magic Studio or Canva Apps are fun to use and useful as well. There are image and video generators, including Magic Design, which can compose entire designs based on just a text prompt. There’s also Magic Animate, Magic Expand, or Magic Edit, to name a few.
